It’s been a while since I’ve written on of these newsletters, but with the start of the season only a few days away, there is plenty of information to get out, so here we go.First of all, welcome to all our new members heading into the 2020/21 season at Murrays Bay and welcome back to everyone else. It has been a different winter for all of us and with Auckland finally getting back to Level one tonight it seems fitting that the sailing season if officially opening for us this Sunday, October 11th. This Sunday is our first Club Sunday of the season, so the morning sees our Opti Blue, Opti Green and Opti Open fleets have their first coaching sessions from 9-12. With an Opti fleet of more than 50 boats it’s going to be a great sight and the weather forecast is looking good. Sunday afternoon is Points Racing for Opti Green and up and we are expecting a good turnout. Steve will have a roster out on Thursday so please look out for that and remember, if you can’t make your duty, it is up to you to organise a replacement. POT LUCK dinner after club racing on Sunday Just bring a sharing plate, we will have plates and cutlery and there is even rumours of heavily discounted “last seasons” beverages. Please go to the survey on TeamApp to let us know if you are coming or not.Season Registration desk. Libby will have a desk set up in the club on Sunday morning to help with any queries re membership, subs, boat storage etc Opti sailors please check in with Libby to make sure you have your correct sail and trolley ribbons along with your lifejacket bands. An exciting addition to the club this season is the RS Feva fleet. We have an already full Adult LTS class on Saturdays. Feva Fridays is for our junior members to experience a different aspect to the sport, learning double handed sailing and plenty of different skills with the No.1 focus of course having fun. For Sunday points racing members can charter the Feva’s for non-points racing. If you want to book a boat for Sunday points racing, send an email to Susannah at mbsc.manager@gmail.com Water shortage reminder we are still under water restrictions so there is no hose use at the club for washing your boats. Buckets, sponges and even 5l garden spray bottles are the best way to look after your gear and I recommend that you get into a good routine for this as these water restrictions are going to be around for a while.we have water storage tanks that are to be used for washing the safety boats in conjunction with the water blaster. All engines are to be flushed using the blue movable water tanks The STACK Winter Champs held last weekend were a huge success, thank you to all of you who volunteered your precious time, without you we can’t run these events. A huge thank you to Phil Elwortthy for taking on the mammoth task of leading the organisation. Galley Lead We are still on the look out for a member to take on the Galley Team lead role. Anyone with good organisational skills could take this on, we have a great group of members well experienced in the area, but having someone to lead the charge is essential moving forward to keep the galley open.
