Hello Members & Friends of the Club,
Every week it seems the sailing season is getting busier and this last week has been no exception.
Our Saturday & Sunday mornings down at MB look more like mini regattas, as all classes young and old get on with the business of hitting the water to go training or racing.
It is very pleasing to see our next wave of talent in the of LTS sessions so excited to go sailing and the return of all our MB sailors for the season in their respective fleets.
I would like to congratulate the Alumni team for hosting a fabulous “AC Cup in Bermuda” night at the club….in the Bunker Bar. Many thanks to the panel - Murray Jones, Ray Davis, Elise Beavis & Josh McCormack for sharing insights of how Emirates Team NZ brought The AC Cup home. Lastly, thanks to Harold Bennett, who professionally & seamlessly offered questions to the panel….great job!
We interrupted the proceeding on the night to congratulate and award 3 individuals to become Life Members at MB. The recipients were Peter Dawson, Phil Turner & Scott Leith.
All 3 have offered many years of service to the sport of sailing and NZ yachting, both internationally and nationally – not to mention their contribution to the support ofour own club activities…certainly well deserved. They now join a very formidable list of life members at MBSC.
With only Pre-Xmas Point series races on the immediate agenda at the club leading into Xmas, please look out for the training course programs that will be on offer at the club shortly. The club will be publishing dates to attend both VHF, Rib, and Race Management courses to up skill our base knowledge this week – Fleet Captains will be sending through details and information for your attendance.
Some of our young sailors jumped on keel boats to compete in the Coastal on Labour weekend, congrats to our P Class Sailors who attended the North Island Champs at Maraetai. Special mention to Seb Menzies who won the 3-day championship in quite tricky conditions.
Lastly, a shout out to the MB sailors that attended the Enoshima Olympic Week – Our very own Alex Maloney, Oscar Gunn, Kate Stewart & Eric Dawson all picking up medals. Great work by the Kiwi team in Japan. In the build up to the Olympics, I’m sure we will see a lot more from Japan in the years to come.
Finally, I’ve been told the Pre-Xmas roster is near complete – please check the roster for the remainder of the season once it is up on the website.
