Hello Members & Friends of the Club,

Well, it all happens in Nov / Dec as the sailing season ramps up a notch or three with back to back events both locally & internationally.

Where do you start? With podium finishes at all events and nominations & recipients to many of the most prestigious awards in the NZ Sailing arena, MB sailors have certainly done us proud during these last few weeks.

We start with our very own Starling sailor Caleb Armit announced as joint winner of the overall Sir Peter Blake Regatta Trophy. Shared WBC Opti Open sailor Josh Hyde. This is awarded across all classes for top results and outstanding attitude during the regatta. Congratulations Caleb and the Armit family!

At the Sir Peter Blake, the MBSC podium place getters were certainly impressive – achieving 1st across 5x classes – Starling, Laser, 420, 29’er & Nacra 15 with podium finishes also including Laser Radial, RSX & Starling Green, Nacra 17 – congratulations to all sailors.

The Sir Peter Blake Regatta is an amazing regatta and congratulations to Torbay. It was impressive to see so many of our Blue & Green Opti sailors enjoying & taking part in their first regatta – certainly a highlight in the calendar year for all.

At the New Zealand Yachting Awards also held just recently impressively MBSC sailors were awarded honours across 10 categories!  For both team & outstanding individual performances for both on the and off the water.  This certainly identifies the depth we have at MBSC from our junior sailing to our professionals.

Across in Australia – we discover that we have MB verses MB at the Harken match racing finals at Royal Prince Alfred.  With their respective teams, we have none other than James Wilson and Leonard Takahashi battling it out in the finals to win the Harken Match Racing Cup.  Leonard & team went on to win back to back regattas and take out the Musto Youth International Match Racing Championship – outstanding effort.

Back home during school time – great to see MB sailors skiving out of school and supporting school sailing at both KYC Intermediate Optimist Schools Regatta and Mahurangi College Yr 7-10 Regatta at Algies Bay in their respective classes.  As sailors forget about clubs and represent their schools – impressive to see MB sailors again back on the podium – filling their respective school silverware cabinets.

Finally, with just 6 days to go to the 2017 Youth Sailing World Champs in Sanya, China.
Good luck to all, especially the MBSC sailors. Annabelle Rennie-Younger and Josh Armit (Laser Radial), Greta Stewart & Henry Haslett (Nacra 15), Annabel Cave (420) and Sam Street (420). We look forward to hearing your progress.

Behind all the events that have been going on, the MBSC website crew have been busy! – I do hope you all enjoy our new website.  Special thanks to Kirsten Back and David Stanton,  who have worked hard to get us to launch date. And many thanks also to the team at Benefitz, who have been instrumental with our new look – please take the time and check it out.  Our weekly automatic newsletter is now retired and we are making plans to relaunch with a new look.  Access the new site here www.murraysbay.org .  Although its the same address, you may need to reset your bookmark.

From the Bunker - many thanks to Kim Admore from YNZ, for arranging two very successful rib training courses just recently. Additional course dates will be on offer in the new year for those that would like to upskill – please look out on the calendar/news updates as they are confirmed.

As our Pre-Xmas season draws near to a close – we are yet to battle it out with Torbay with our interclub challenge on the 10th and we still have the North Harbour P Class Trial on the 16th & 17th,  Also our Christmas closing day on 17th December - there is no points racing, but plans include on and off the water games and activities with a Xmas feast for dinner - stay tuned.

We look forward to seeing you at the club in the weeks ahead.

Happy sailing
